The present invention relates to a method of increasing the heat transfer in a hydrophilic liquid, preferably water, by enhancing the thermal conductivtty of the liquid by sUitably dispersing surface capped silver nanopowder in the liquid, at room temperature. More specifically, it relates to a process for preparing sUitably dispersed surface capped silver nanopowder in a hydrophiiic medium preferably water at room temperature showing improved stability compared to many other nanofluids, The nanofluids of the present invention are directed to remarkably enhanced (100%) thermal conductivity for a loading of silver nanoparticles as low as -0.09 vol.%. Importantly, the invention is further directed to address the problem of nanofluid stability for a wide scale application and end use in natural circulation based heat recovery systems/coolanss for improving the efficiency of the said systems.
