ABSTRACT VACUUM INTERRUPTER CONTACT STRUCTURE DESIGN FOR IMPROVED CURRENT INTERRUPTING PERFORMANCE A contact assembly arrangement in a vacuum interrupter comprises a pair of slotted contact carriers 3, contact tips 4 and tubular supports 10, which carry a portion of current flowing through the slotted contact carriers 3. The portion of the current flowing through the tubular support 10 is varied by changing its wall thickness. The direction of the current flowing through the tubular support 10 and the slotted contact carrier 3 is same. That is characterized by providing slots 11 in the tubular support 10, which are aligned with the slots 12 in the slotted contact carriers 3. It is also possible to make the slots angle of the tubular support 10 different than the slots angle in the slotted contact carrier 3 to optimize the magnetic field on the contact tip surface. Therefore, the tubular support 10 can be effectively utilized to enhance the current interrupting performance of the vacuum interrupter. Fig 2
