A plant monitoring and control system (10), and method for controlling screen display history database (41) are disclosed which enables efficient accumulation and search of histories of screen displays useful for analyzing the cause of a failure in the operating conditions of a plant. The system includes: a screen display change-point detection unit (34) detecting ? change in a control input data requisition dialogue box and a plant alarrr information display (53); a screen display change-point output unit (35 converting display data displayed on the detected screen display into texi data; a history data storage unit (36); a history data retrieval unit (37); and ? screen display reproduction unit (38) reproducing original screen displays based on the extracted histories of the screen displays.
