The invention relates to a signal based electronic protection system for on-line control of process parameters of a circulating fluidized bed boiler (CFB) to prevent upset operation of the boiler, the boiler, the boiler essentially comprising combustion, a plurality of cyclones, at least one loop seal arrangement disposed between the cyclones and the combustor, a fuel bunker, a coal feeder, a master fuel control valve, a rotary feeder for coal feeding, a primary air fan a fuel feeder, and a pressure tapping means, the protection system comprising at least one processor and a program, a control logic circuitory incorporating weightage and filter function of the operational parameters of the boiler, the protection system being interfaced with the main boiler control system, the protection system is configured to: acquire the loop seal pressure in real-time and filter the captured data; measure the flow-data of primary air and secondary air; determine the pressure at windbox, at combustor mid-level, and at the fuel feeder; compare the acquired data representing air pressure and fuel pressure based on pre-stored data; and determine a logic air input and fuel feed to the combustor to prevent any possible upset operation of the boiler.
