A VOLATILE OIL FORMULATION FOR PROTECTION AGAINST TWO MOSQUITO SPECIES, AEDES AEGYPTI

摘要

The primary object of the invention is to prepare a volatile oil formulation possessing mosquito repellent properties. The oil formulation consists of 14% Cinnamon oil, 15% Citronella oil, 3% Calamus oil, 40%) Orange oil, 20% Camphor oil and 8% Ocimum oil. The oil formulation was tested against Aedes aegypti (Linn.) and Culex quinquefasciatus (Say) adult mosquitoes for repellent activity. The oil formulation exhibited mosquito repellent activity against the two mosquito species. The formulation did not show any toxic effects on rats. The oil formulation can be a better alternative to chemical repellents. It is safe and environment- friendly.
