AUTOCIDAL OVITRAP FOR MONITORING DENGUE AND CHIKUNGUNYA VECTORS

An autocidal oviposition trap, for monitoring dengue and chikungunya vectors that is cost effective method for surveillance of container-breeding mosquitoes, especially Stegomyia mosquitoes which are the vectors of dengue and chikungunya, wherein the ovitraps are used for surveillance collects the eggs and prevent the escape of the gravid females from the trap after egg laying. The autocidal trap mentioned in the present invention is thus adapted to trap the gravid females and not allow the female mosquitoes from flying away after laying of eggs. Such auctocidal traps are found useful in the field for monitoring of vectors and enable the public health workers and researchers to easily trap and identify the prevalence of vectors in an area. The trap aids in rapid identification of the vector species as the adults are trapped in.
