System and method to implement spreadsheet based test automation framework for web application testing

A processor implemented method for testing a software application is provided. The method includes (i) processing, an input received from a user through a first user interface view of an electronic document to define test cases that are executed to test the software application, (ii) processing, an input include (a) keywords in a second user interface view of the electronic document to define one or more test action, and (b) unique identification number for each of the one or more test actions, (iii) executing the test case by executing the one or more action item to obtain a test case execution result, (iv) comparing the obtained test case execution result with a predetermined result associated with the input received at the first user interface view of the electronic document, and (v) validating, the software application based on the comparison.
