Pseudo deep spray angle combustion bowl for improved emissions across various applications for diesel engine

An internal combustion engine including a combustion chamber is disclosed. The engine includes an engine block defining a cylinder. A cylinder head is coupled to the engine block and defines a top face of the combustion chamber. The combustion chamber is shaped so as to cause movement of the charge air according to a swirl ratio. A piston is positioned within the cylinder. The piston a crown defining a piston bowl. A fuel injector is mounted in the cylinder head at a spray angle relative to a floor of the piston bowl at a first region thereof. The shape profile of the piston bowl and a configuration of the fuel injector are designed such that the piston bowl operates similar to a deep spray angle bowl when the piston is near top dead center and similar to a re-entrant bowl when the piston is near bottom dead center.
