A wheelchair assembly for ascending and descending a staircase is provided. The wheelchair assembly includes one or more wheels, a screw jack, one or more grooved links, and one or more sector wheels. The one or more wheels are adapted to move the wheelchair assembly. The screw jack is coupled to the one or more wheels. The screw jack is operated manually to lift the one or more wheels. The one or more grooved links are coupled to the screw jack. The one or more grooved links include one or more holes that are locked with a sliding link when the one or more wheels are lifted to a required position. The one or more sector wheels are coupled to the sliding link. The one or more sector wheels are adapted to ascend and descend the staircase when the one or more wheels are lifted.
