Embodiments herein provide a system and a method for preserving active state of Idle Mode Signaling Reduction (ISR) function in a wireless communication network is disclosed. The method comprises sending an area update request message to at least one node in the wireless communication network. The area update request message is sent by a User Equipment (UE) during an Inter-Radio Access technology (RAT) System Change. Further, the method comprises receiving, at the UE, an area update accept message from at least one node. Furthermore, the method comprises setting a Temporary Identity Used in Next Update (TIN) parameter to RAT-related Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity (TMSI) to preserve the ISR in response to receipt of the area update accepts message. The TIN parameter is set to RAT-related TMSI when a status of a periodic area update timer is deactivated. FIGS. 3 and 4
