The present invention relates to the testing of various hardware interfaces used in avionics systems of an aircraft. In particular, it relates to a method of testing MH1553B, ARINC429, ARINC717, RS232, RS422 interfaces. In the present method, the hardware functional testing module reads the commands from the database and sends the commands for testing different interfaces of the target system. The target system decodes the commands, performs the commanded test, and sends the test results to the hardware funct ional testing module on the serial interface. The hardware functional testing module logs the results and provides the health status of all the interfaces. The present invention provides a cost effective method of testing avionics interfaces which provides multiple adv antages like automation, less complexity, elimination of data analysers, less manual intervention, unskilled operators, time savings and portability.
