This invention is about the development of a warning indicator to predict VNE (Never Exceed Speed) of a helicopter. The indicator can be used as a warning device in the helicopter to make the crew aware of VNE. The maximum speed allowed in a normal flight is called VNE. The VNE.of a helicopter is limited because of compressibility effects on the advancing side of the rotor. Helicopter at the speed greater than VNE, will be subjected to high stresses and can be detrimental to structure. The helicopters at speed more than VNE, will also cause the retreating blades to stall hence It becomes necessary to provide a video/audio warning to predict VNE of a helicopter. The instantaneous VNE information improves the safety of crew and the helicopter. In this invention, VNE characte ristic is calculated based on the blade aerofoil characteristics. The blade airfoil characteristics are converted to Blade loading and advance ratio and an algorithm is derived. This algorithm can be used to trigger any Video or Audio warning once the VNE is reached. The warning can also be flashed by a light (particular color) inside the cockpit.
