A METHOD OF DETECTING IF A TIRE OF A VEHICLE IS SUMMER TIRE OR WINTER TIRE

A method of detecting if a tire of a vehicle is summer tire or winter tire is disclosed. The method includes calculating slip of the tire by measuring speed of the tire and speed of the vehicle and further calculating slip rate (105), determining wheel jerk using wh eel speed sensor (110), determining pressure gradient by applying variable or constant brake pressure (115), computing tire characteristic v alue based on the pressure gradient, the calculated slip rate and the wheel jerk (120) and determining if it is summer tire or win ter tire based on the computed tire characteristics (125).
