The present invention provides a prepaid energy metering system in which an easy-recharge unit is interfaced to the digital energy meter for conveniently recharging the energy meter using a GSM supported handheld device such as but not limited to mobile phone, tablet. The easy recharge interface has a user verification page for which the user name and password is provided by the electricity department to the concerned recharge booth/center/shop/shopkeeper for logging in. Once logged in, the system is used to recharge the customers memory unit. The system also comprises an LCD screen to display the amount of balance left and the amount of units consumed at regular intervals.
