The invention relates to improved method to conduct microfocal radiography of tube to tube sheet welds of heat exchanger, comprising the steps of constructing a tool for making perforations on an X-ray film cassette containing a film such that scratches around the cutting edges is prevented, the X-ray film being double- side emulsion coated with sensitized silver bromide grains; inserting the punctured cassette over a rod anode emanating radiation at an angle of 30° perpendicular to the rod axis; providing a bush to act as a light arrestor to prevent light leakage though the perforations to the X-ray film; and appending a compensator at a slope angle such that the cumulative travel distance of the radiation beam across the different extremities of the weld corresponds to each other, wherein the material used in forming the compensator is same as that of the weld, wherein the microfocal radiography process is done with the bush incorporated and the compensator appended.
