The present invention relates to a smart distribution power grid (SDPG) wherein SDPG system comprises of at least one micro-grid (MG1, MG2, MG3, MG4�..MGn) and each micro-grid (MG1, MG2, MG3, MG4�..MGn) comprises of at least one set of intelligent entities and at least one external SDN, at least one set of means of communication capable of enabling communication within said set of intelligent entities of said micro-grid, or among said set of intelligent entities of cluster of micro-grids, forming an overlay communication network on said micro-grid (MG1, MG2, MG3, MG4�..MGn). The overlay of communication network are deployed on said micro-grid (MG1, MG2, MG3, MG4�..MGn) so as to minimize installation cost, communication cost and overall maintenance cost of said SDPG as well as said communication network thereon
