Provided are: a catalyst for use in the polymerization of a conjugated diene which enables the highly active production of a conjugated diene polymer having a high cis 1 4 structure content; a conjugated diene polymer and a modified conjugated diene polymer each produced using the catalyst; methods respectively for producing the polymers; a rubber composition for tires; and a rubber composition for rubber belts. A catalyst for use in the polymerization of a conjugated diene which is characterized by comprising a non metallocene type gadolinium compound (A) represented by general formula (1) an ionic compound (B) composed of a non coordinating anion and a cation and an organometallic compound (C) of an element selected from elements belonging to Groups 2 12 and 13 on the periodic table; a conjugated diene polymer and a modified conjugated diene polymer each produced using the catalyst; methods respectively for producing the polymers; a rubber composition for tires; and a rubber composition for rubber belts.
