An aqueous hydrophilic coating composition characterized by comprising: (A) an inorganic compound produced by modifying a colloidal silica (a) with at least one compound selected from organoalkoxysilane compounds (b) each having at least one group selected from the group consisting of a glycidyl group a vinyl group and an amino group; (B) a water soluble resin; and (C) an amorphous silica represented by the formula: MO·SiO (wherein the MO/SiO ratio is 0.05 to 0.3 by mass).
