In this, the inlet channel (66o, 66u) is designed especially to inject the splicing air into the splice channel (20) of the splice channel unit (60). It has, depending on the particular variant of the invention, a) minimum values for the length l of its part (69o, 69u) near the outlet and of the diameter d of its outlet (70o, 70u) opening into the splicing chamber (20), or b) the ratio rld = l/d of these values exceeds a minimum value, wherein this part (69o, 69u) near the outlet must be kept essentially free of structures in both cases a) and b) which might impede the flow of the splicing air, or c) the inlet channel (66o, 66u) is designed such that the splicing air, as it flows through said channel, forms a laminar flow directed into the splice channel (20) at the latest before its outlet (70o, 70u) opening into the splice channel (20).
