ABSTRACT Power Take-off (PTO) Unit for a rear-wheel driven, east-west configuration transaxle driven by an extended input shaft of the gearbox, the unit comprising: front housing with flange thereof cooperating with transaxle flange, PTO rear and front housings, companion flange, PTO input shaft connected to extended input shaft, PTO output shaft, PTO input and output bevel gears, disengagement device for engaging or disengaging the PTO unit to the transaxle extended input shaft for operating the connected implement, wherein the power is transferred by the input bevel gear to the output bevel gear disposed at 900 with respect to the input bevel gear, the output gear bevel being splined on the PTO output shaft at the end adjacent the input bevel gear and carrying the companion flange splined at the other end thereof. The invention also provides a method for operating an implement by the PTO unit. Figure 6.
