The invention relates to a method for operating a bobbin station of a texturing machine and to a texturing machine of this type having a multiplicity of bobbin stations (2). The texturing machine has a plurality of processing units (7.1 7.2 13) for drawing and texturing a thread (3) which is subsequently wound up to form a bobbin (18) in the associated bobbin station (2). Finished wound bobbins (18) are removed by an operator and are replaced with an empty tube (32). In order for it to be possible to grant the operator more leeway during the operation of the bobbin stations according to the invention the incoming thread (3) is severed in an automated manner if a manual bobbin change is not forthcoming and is conveyed continuously into a yarn waste container (24) by way of a suction flow. To this end the bobbin station (2) is assigned a thread receiving device (21) which brings about severing and conveying of the incoming thread if a manual bobbin change is not forthcoming.
