The invention relates to medicine and concerns compositions (formulations) which can be, (86) ZA 20150inter alia, in the form of biologically active additives and have the properties of hepatoprotectors and protectors against hepatic encephalopathy: - acute (fulminant) hepatic encephalopathy caused by acute liver failure; - chronic hepatic encephalopathy with an etiological basis of cirrhosis of the liver caused by alcoholic, non-alcoholic or viral hepatitis etc. The invention consists in that: in order to treat acute and chronic hepatic encephalopathy, combination formulations are proposed comprising components having a synergetic activity on different metabolic and signaling systems, including activation of: osmoprotector and energy systems, systems of reactions to detoxification of an ammonium ion and other toxins, and the antioxidant systems of cells of the brain, the liver and other tissues and organs. The formulations for the treatment of acute hepatic encephalopathy comprise, as base: L-carnitine, acetyl-L-carnitine and creatine phosphate, and can also comprise: N-acetylcysteine and ethanol (1); succinate, L-glutamate, L-arginine, �-acetylcysteine and trimethylglycine (2); succinate, L-glutamate, L-arginine and trimethylglycine (3). The formulations for the treatment of chronic hepatic encephalopathy comprise, as base: L-carnitine, acetyl-carnitine, succinate, L-glutamate, L-arginine, trimethylglycine and creatine phosphate, and can also comprise: �-acetylcysteine, coenzyme Q10 and dihydroquercetin (4); S-adenosyl methionine, coenzyme Q10 and dihydroquercetin (5); S-adenosyl methionine, coenzyme Q10, dihydroquercetin and lipoamide (6). The invention extends the range of agents with high hepatoprotector and anti-encephalopathic activity and agents inhibiting the development of a coma and a fatal outcome in the case of acute hepatic encephalopathy and ensuring a reverse development of behavioural, neurological and mental disorders in the case of chronic encephalopathy.
