摘要
The sea cucumber is largely consumed as a putative functional food. Contains many biologically active substances, but little research on its properties, in vivo, have been made. The present disclosure is related to different diets comprising Isostichopus badionotus, a sea cucumber that grows in southeastern Mexico and the method of preparation of the same. Such diets help decrease the body lipid profile. The wall of the sea cucumber body is cooked (100°C, 1h in water) and lyophilized or dried in oven (70°C for 12 h). Then ground and incorporated in diets containing cholesterol. Diets with I. badionotus improve the lipid profile. Particularly, serum cholesterol, low density lipoproteins, triglycerides and atherogenic index values are greatly reduced by I. badionotus contained in the diets described in the present invention. Total lipids in the liver, triglycerides and cholesterol are also reduced. Boiling or performing a heat treatment of food containing sea cucumber, reduces but does not eliminate its lipid-lowering power. The gene expression of several key genes involved in the cholesterol metabolism of lipids in the liver showed that diets containing I. badionotus repress the induction of key genes related with the exerted dyslipidemia by administering cholesterol supplements. The I. badionotus consumption is beneficial for dyslipidemia although the biological effect is clearly dependent of the preparation method of the l. badionotus, as it is described in the present invention.
