A Cladocolea loniceroides extract results from boiling the dried fruits thereof in water for 5 min, where it contains 120.3±4.2 mg eq. of gallic acid/g from total polyphenols when the FolinûCiocalteu reagent is used; the antioxidant capacity of the extract was the following: 82.6±0.4% of DPPH inhibition, generated by the presence of polyphenols and the ability to transfer electrons in a reduction oxide system, as well as the power of chelating Fe2- assessed in in-vitro models, chemical and in-vivo systems, since this avoids the lipid peroxidation induced in rats through the inhibition of the Fenton reaction which is performed in a natural manner during the cellular metabolism. The antioxidant aqueous extract at a value of DL50=0.093 mg eq. Gallic acid/ml has a cytotoxic effect in-vivo over the cellular line ZR-75 of the ductal breast cancer. This observed activity may be useful as a basis for the development of a standardised preparation that assists the prevention and treatment of th e breast cancer, and the use thereof in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry as a natural source of antioxidants.
