A mobile safety unit 1 for securing a rail section 23 against trains 25, 27 traveling in and out of the rail section has an electrical conductor 3 which can be brought into contact with or near the ends with the two rails 5 of a rail 7, and a switch 9 for interrupting and closing the electrical conductor. The safety unit 1 also has a transmitter 11 for giving a stop signal which can be detected by the recording coils of a train located above the rails. The safety unit further has an electronic unit 13 for disturbing a signal passing through the rails 5 indicating that it is allowed to drive at high speed.
