METHOD FOR TREATING THE SECONDARY DYSTONIA

The method for treating the secondary dystonia involves the surgery. The head of the patient is fixed in the stereotactic frame; the target of destruction is localized based on the findings of magnetic resonance tomography, computed tomography, electron stereotaxic atlas of the brain by Shaltenbrand & Baily and software for stereotactic system for combining MRI and CT images and targeting planning. In postfrontal area, the soft tissues are cut linearly, the opening is made with milling cutter, dura mater is dissected, the underlying cortex is coagulated. The electrode for destruction is inserted into the medial segment of pallidum under control of intraoperative electrical stimulation. Following the assessment of the adequate position of electrode, the medial segment of pallidum is subjected to the high-frequency electrocoagulation. The second destruction focus is located by 2 mm above the first one. The electrode is removed. The soft tissues and the skin are sutured.
