A method of reconfiguring a binary tree topology network after the exit of an exiting node (X), the network including a plurality of nodes (P, Q, X, A, B), including a root node, operatively interconnected with each other to provide a downstream communication path for data, the network configured where an exiting node (X) couples down the tree of and with a parent node (P) and upstream of and with a first child node ( A) and a second child node (B) and where the first child node (A) is coupled down the tree of and with a first grandchild node and a second grandchild node and where the exit node (X), the parent node (P), the first child node (A), the second child node (B), the first grandchild node and the second grandchild node are each of the plurality of nodes, the network reconfiguration method with the steps of: send a registration message from the first child node (A) to the parent node (P), the registration message requesting that the parent node (P) dock the tree up and with the first child node (A); responding to the registration message by sending a registration acceptance from the parent node (P) to the first child node (A), thereby coupling the parent node (P) upstream of and with the first child node (A); the method that is characterized by the steps of sending a priority join message from the second child node (B) to the first child node (A), the priority join message requesting that the first child node dock up the tree and with the second child node (B); sending a disconnect propagation message from the first child node (A) to the second grandchild node upon receiving a priority join message from the second child node (B); and respond to the join with priority message by sending a join acceptance from the first child node (A) to the second child node (B), thereby coupling the first child node (A) tree above and with the second child node ( B), for which the network is reconfigured to no longer include the node that leaves (X).
