A three-layer orally ingestible tablet for administering at least one pharmaceutical active ingredient (API) or its pharmaceutically active salts and isomers to the gastrointestinal tract, in which each layer includes an API, or its pharmaceutically active salts and isomers and the APIs are tramadol, paracetamol and diclofenac and in which each API is integrated into a platform formed from at least one polymer and, when appropriate, excipients that, during use, inhibit the release of an API in a region of the gastrointestinal tract other than the desired absorption location and thus facilitates API release, at a controlled rate, when it is at the desired absorption location and the polymer (s), during use, provide first order release of each API or its pharmaceutically active salts and isomers from one or both outer layers of the tablet and in which the tablet has an intermediate layer of speed modulating polymeric material and at least one crosslinking agent to provide, in use, a zero order release of the API or its pharmaceutically active salts and isomers.
