Method for generating an interactive electronic menu in a display module, the menu comprising menu items (a, b, c, d, e), wherein a menu item may be in an unselected, selected, or activated state, and the menu being encoded in a menu data segment, characterized in that - at least a first and a second menu item (1.0, 1.1) are connected through a parent-child relationship, where the second item (1.1 menu) that is a child of the first menu item (1.0) can only be selected when the first menu item is selected; and - the first and second menu items are encoded in the same data segment, where at least one button instruction is associated with a menu item and is encoded in said menu data segment, the instruction being usable button to modify the visibility of at least one other menu item.
