A system for subatmospheric pressure therapy in connection with wound healing, comprising: a cover with wound dressing (12,112,212,312) sized for positioning with respect to a wound bed of a subject to establish a reservoir (14,114,314) on the wound bed in which subatmospheric pressure can be maintained; a subatmospheric pressure mechanism (10) that includes: a housing; a vacuum source (40) disposed in the housing; and a collection vessel (38) in fluid communication with the vacuum source (40); a wound port (800) operatively connected to the wound dressing (12,112,212,312) in fluid communication with the reservoir (14,114,314), characterized in that the wound port (800) includes: a vacuum port; and a plurality of holes arranged circumferentially around the wound port, where the plurality of holes (822) is operable to allow ambient air in the reservoir (14,114,314); and wherein the system further comprises an exudate conduit in fluid communication with the wound port (800) and the collection vessel (38) to collect exudate removed from the reservoir (14,114,314) and deposited in the collection vessel (38) under the influence of the vacuum source (40).
