Benign pigmented moles of the skin or mycosis pedis or nail fungus can betreated withlocally applicable, in particular topically formulated active ingredients offormula (I), inwhich formula (I) X represents CO, CHOZ or CHNRZ, Z being selected fromhydrogen;straight-chain and branched (C1-C6) alkyl; straight-chain or branched (C2-C6)alkenyl;straight-chain or branched (C2-C6) alkynyl; (C3-C8) cycloalkyl; (C6-C24) aryl;(C7-C24)aralkyl; m- and p-CH2(C6H4)COOM; COR3; CSR3; C(NR6)R3; SOR4; SO2OM;SO2NR7R8; SO2O-artemisinyl; SO2NH-artemisinyl; POR4R5 and PSR4R5; wherein R3isstraight-chain or branched (C1-C6) alkyl; straight-chain or branched (C1-C6)alkoxy;straight-chain or branched (C2-C6) alkenyl; straight-chain or branched (C2-C6)alkynyl;(C3-C8) cycloalkyl; (C6-C24) alkyl; (C1-C10) aryloxy; (C7-C24) aralkyl; -(CH2)n-COOM,with n as an integer of from 1 through 6; or 10.alpha.-dihydroartemisinyl; R4and R5 areselected independently of one another from straight-chain or branched (C1-C6)alkyl;straight-chain or branched (C2-C6) alkenyl; straight-chain or branched (C2-C6)alkynyl;(C3-C8)cycloalkyl; (C6-C24) aryl; (C7-C24) aralkyl; OM; straight-chain orbranched (C1-C6) alkoxy; (C6-C10) aryloxy and NR7R8; R6 is selected from straight-chain orbranched(C1-C6) alkyl; straight-chain or branched (C2-C6) alkenyl; straight-chain orbranched (C2-C6) alkynyl; (C3-C8) cycloalkyl; (C6-C24) aryl and (C7-C24) aralkyl; M ishydrogen or apharmaceutically acceptable cation; and R7 and R8 independently of one anotherarehydrogen or straight-chain or branched (C1-C6) alkyl, or R7 and R8 togetherform a (C4-C6) alkylene bridge; and R is selected from hydrogen and the groups listed forR6 .
