A fluid bed reactor has a reaction vessel with a compartment configured toprocess areactive material to form one or more products. Attached to the reactionvessel is at least oneheat transfer module which includes a pulse combustor and an associatedacoustic chamber.The pulse combustor has at least one tailpipe that terminates in itsassociated acousticchamber. Flue gases exiting the tailpipe(s) pass from the acoustic chamber,through a wallseparating the acoustic chamber from the reactor vessel and into heat transfertubes thatprotrude into a compartment of the reactor vessel. Feedstock inlets areconfigured tointroduce the reactive material into a region that is vertically between thefirst and secondclusters of heat transfer tubes. The heat transfer tubes have an annularconstruction such thatthe flue gases pass through an inner shield tube in a direction away from thewall, turnaround, and return in a direction towards the wall where they are directed toa manifold. Afirst cluster of heating conduits at least partially occupies the compartmentand extends over afirst vertical extent within the compartment. A second cluster of heatingconduits partiallyoccupies the compartment and extends over a second vertical extent within thecompartment.The first cluster of heating conduits is vertically below the second clusterof heating conduitsand spaced apart therefrom by a first separation distance.
