The invention relates to a process for energy- andemission--optimized iron production and to an installation for carryingout the process. In this case, a first partial amount of agenerator gas produced in a melter gasifier is used as a firstreducing gas in a first reduction zone, and a second partialamount is fed to at least one further reduction zone as asecond reducing gas. In addition, after CO2 scrubbing, apartial amount of the top gas removed from the first reductionzone is admixed with the generator gas after the latter leavesthe melter gasifier, wherein the cooling of the generator gastakes place.
