Disclosed herein is an apparatus for deterring predators, which may be used asa walking stickuntil a predator is encountered. Upon encountering a predator, the apparatusallows a user torapidly deploy a collapsible rigid structure from the interior of the hollowwalking stick, whichsupports a membrane, or set of membranes, that display the image of a fearsomecreature. Thedeployed apparatus may also be used as an offensive or defensive pike should apredator chargea user of the apparatus. By increasing the apparent size of a user anddisplaying a large image ofa fearsome creature, predatory animals may be deterred by this predator-intimidating walkingstick.
