A classifying method and searching method for television channels, apparatus and playing device thereof are provided in the present invention. The classifying method for television channels includes: when searching for a television channel, judging whether the current obtained television channel is stored in the channel classification database used for storing television channels and the classes to which each television channel belongs; when the current searched television channel is stored in the channel classification database, obtaining the class of the current searched television channel from the channel classification database, and storing the class of the current searched television channel; when the current searched television channel is not stored in the channel classification database, obtaining the class of the current searched television channel inputted by a user, and storing the class of the current searched television channel inputted by the user.
