Systems and methods of optimizing capacity of an optical network include analyzing a plurality of wavelength services in the optical network; determining an optimization of the plurality of wavelength services to increase the capacity of the optical network; and adjusting the plurality of wavelength services based on the optimization. The adjustments can be any of modifying wavelength, modifying launch power, modifying or changing modulation format, modifying spectral characteristics, adjusting amplifier settings, changing baud rate, and changing Forward Error Correction (FEC) parameters.
