An excitation system based on double excitation windings, comprising a primary excitation winding (L1) and a subsidiary excitation winding (L2), wherein the magnetic fields of the two excitation windings are coupled via a rotor core. The primary excitation winding ( L1) is used for providing a rotating magnetic field under the non-strong excitation condition of a generator, and the subsidiary excitation winding (L2) is used for providing a rotating magnetic field for realizing strong excitation under the strong excitation condition of the generator.
