The invention relates to a method for the surface modification of Foley catheters in order to reduce the coefficient of friction and bacterial adhesion thereof, characterised by the application of a coating formed by diamond-like carbon (DLC)-chitin. The coating has a roughness of between 0.5 and 12 microns and is formed by between 20% DLC - 80% chitin and 60% DLC - 40% chitin.
