The invention relates to a fault tolerance method which allows simple, double or multiple faults in the network to be resolved, consisting in solving the following problems simultaneously: defining a secondary route for each possible fault in the network, whether simple (one link) or multiple (various links at the same time); establishing the wavelengths of each of the links of the network, taking into account the primary routes, the secondary routes and the maximum probability of acceptable blockage; and solving the previous problems with a low network resource cost.
