ESTIMATING ENERGY CONTENT FOR FOOD WASTE DISPOSAL, STORAGE, AND TREATMENT SYSTEM

A system and method are provided for a food loading station having a disposer that grinds food waste that is located at a facility that processes food waste. A storage tank receives a slurry of food waste and water from the disposer. A remote module is in communication with a controller connected to the disposer and in communication with a terminal associated with the facility. In a first embodiment, the remote module receives at least one of a measurement and an estimate of a chemical oxygen demand, of the slurry, calculates an estimated methane yield that will result from anaerobic digestion of the slurry at an anaerobic digestion facility based on the chemical oxygen demand of the slurry, determines an estimated energy content of the slurry based on the estimated methane yield, generates a report that includes the estimated energy content of the slurry, and communicates the report to the terminal. In a second embodiment, the remote module receives at least one of a measurement and an estimate of a total organic carbon of the slurry for calculating the estimated methane yield that will result from anaerobic digestion of the slurry. In a third embodiment, the remote module determines a wet food waste volume, a solid food waste volume, a weight of solid food waste in the slurry, and calculates an estimated energy content of the slurry.
