A super-resolution reconstruction method for enhancing smoothness and definition of a video image is provided, comprising: step 1, providing an original image including original image pixels arranged in several arrays; step 2, performing edge detection on the original image in a Canny_H mode, and considering pixel edge information within an image range of 4*4 area; step 3, interpolating and enlarging the edge pixels 2*2 times, and determining that the area type of the image is a pure color solid area or a non-pure-color solid area according to the obtained pixel edge information; step 4, respectively performing conditional interpolation on the pure color solid area and the non-pure-color solid; step 5, obtaining the super-resolution image after 2*2 times pixels interpolation and enlargement. In the pure color solid area, 4*4 edge information is interpolated according to rules to maintain edge definition of the pure color solid area and to reduce sawteeth in the area where the sawteeth exist; in the non-pure-color solid area, interpolation in a BiCubic_H mode is performed to enhance the smoothness and definition of the image.
