#$%^&*AU2016100494A420160609.pdf#####ABSTRACT The present invention provides a method of isolating at least one phenanthroindolizidine alkaloid in particular with HIF-1 inhibitory activity from Tylophora atrofolliculata. The method can be used to isolate and obtain for example about 22 phenanthroindolizidine alkaloids. Among them are 11 new phenanthroindolizidine alkaloids which have not been isolated so far. Experimental tests confirmed an exceptional HIF-1 inhibitory activity of the phenanthroindolizidine alkaloids isolated. The present invention further refers to a composition, in particular a pharmaceutical composition, comprising at least one phenanthroindolizidine alkaloid and at least one pharmaceutical tolerable excipient. Still further, the present invention refers to a method of treating a subject suffering from cancer by administering at least one phenanthroindolizidine alkaloids isolated from Tylophora atrofolliculata.
