The object of the invention is the method for preparing a natural material with a negative refractive index, characterised in that at least two chemical compounds in powder form are mixed, of which at least one compound has negative values of dielectric permittivity and the second compound has negative values of magnetic permittivity in the common frequency range, and then the mix of the compounds is subjected to a pre-compression, and subsequently the resulting compact is subjected to a main compression, wherein the compression takes place under elevated pressure conditions. The material obtained by the method according to the invention can be used, among others, as an electromagnetic shield, antenna, absorber, superlens, or electromagnetic wave filter.
