A smart natural disaster alert system comprising a central controller and alert machine units. The central controller is placed either at a Bureau of Agriculture, a meteorological observatory or other places and collects early warning information such as weather and geological disasters via a dedicated data channel or a network. The alert machine units carry out data communication via a GPRS channel at places where GPRS signals are widespread and communicate via a satellite datalink at blind spots of GPRS coverage. The central controller collects, collates, organizes, and distributes the early warning information and, after processing, transmits by means of short messages to any alert machine unit in need of such. When the early warning information is received by the alert machine unit, same alerts the public in the corresponding area by means of GPRS short message forwarding or loudspeaker broadcast. The smart natural disaster alert system fully utilizes complementary characteristics between GPRS and satellite communication technologies, provides comprehensive communication coverage, ensures that the alert information has no blind spot, and allows the smart alert machine units to be flexibly distributed and free from effects of terrain.
