Embodiments provide an apparatus, an optical receiver, a method and a computer program for processing a first and a second electrical signal based on an polarization multiplexed signal. Embodiments provide an apparatus (10) for processing a first electrical signal and a second electrical signal. The first electrical signal is based on an optical signal comprising two polarizations, and the second electrical signal is based on the optical signal. The apparatus (10) comprises a filter module (12) to equalize the first electrical signal resulting in a first equalized signal, and to equalize the second electrical signal resulting in a second equalized signal. The apparatus (10) further comprises a de-multiplexing module (14) to determine a first de-multiplexed signal and a second de-multiplexed signal based on the first equalized signal and the second equalized signal. The first de-multiplexed signal basically comprises components of the polarization multiplexed signal of one polarization, and the second demultiplexed signal basically comprises components of the polarization multiplexed signal of the other polarization.
