Medical occlusion instrument 1 for treating defects in the heart of a patient, in particular for closing abnormal tissue openings, wherein the occluder 1 is composed of a multiflexible braid 3 of thin filaments 2 with closed braid segments 4 and open braid segments 5, wherein a distal disc or distal retention area 24 is delimited by a web 26 from a proximal disc or proximal retention area 25, and wherein at least one woven fabric inlay (patch) 45 is in each case present in the discs 24, 25 which are needed to completely close the shunt in the web 26, wherein the two retention areas 24, 25, in most cases in an invasive surgical procedure, come to rest on both sides of a shunt that is to be closed in a septum, while the web 26 extends through the shunt. The filaments 2 of the multiflexible braid 3 can be produced from metal or from metal alloys, for example nitinol, from non-resorbable synthetics chosen from the group of polyesters, polyamides, polyolefins, polyurethanes and polyhalogenated olefins, or from bioresorbable polymers.
