Techniques for designing a manufacturing facility for fabrication of solid state energy storage devices are disclosed herein. Specifically, an iterative method can be used to design a solid state battery manufacturing line considering a multitude of factors including, but not limited to: (1) how to choose battery materials and structure; (2) how to choose between crystalline and amorphous battery materials; (3) how to choose materials to avoid expensive elements and to avoid materials that are difficult to be processed; (4) whether to include interlayers; (5) whether to stack and wind the layers into cells; and (6) how to terminate and package cells.
