Furthermore, by using an optional open-loop/closed-loop controller (20) a method is incremented in which, in the event of detection of a switch off command and/or elimination of a switch-on command, the drive (8) continues to run until the cellular rotor (6) has reached a position which is or can be predefined with respect to a relative angle (γ, γ1, γ2) between a cell of the cellular rotor (6) and the inlet (3)/outlet (5, 5a...5d). In particular, the rotary valve (101...106) is suitable for a sanding system (15) of a rail vehicle (22).
