The invention relates to the field of optical instrument design and may be used for centering lens elements in stacked objective lenses. The method allows for centering lenses relative to a reference axis of an objective lens, which is the rotational axis of a table (mount) of a station for the automated centering of lenses using a re-focusing autocollimator and a piezo manipulator. In order to achieve said aim, a mount is placed on the table of the station, said mount having a first objective lens element installed therein via a reference surface; an autocollimator measures the deviation of a first center of curvature of the lens relative to the rotational axis of the table, and the mount is shifted using a manipulator, so as to align the first center of curvature of the lens with the rotational axis, and the mount position is secured. Next, the deviation of a second center of curvature of the lens is measured, and the lens is inclined in the mount so as to align the second center of curvature thereof with the rotational axis, and the position of the lens in the mount is secured. Next, the mount of a second lens element is installed on the mount of the first lens element, and the second lens element is centered using the same process. A third lens element and subsequent lens elements of the objective lens are centered in the same way. The mounts of the lens elements make it possible to incline the lenses relative to the rotational axis of the table, irrespective of the shape of the reference surfaces of the lenses.
