A CASE DESIGN FOR A PERSONAL ELECTRONICS DEVICE WITH A PLUG-IN ACCESSORY

A protective case (100) for a personal electronics device (PED) and an optional plug-in accessory (e.g.a thermal imaging camera), including at least one first case section covering a portion of the PED not holding the connector, and two interchangeable mating case sections (102,104) covering the remaining portion including the connector portion. One of the interchangeable case sections covers the PED in operation without the accessory installed, and the other interchangeable section is configured to protect the accessory and complete the case protection while maintaining operable accessory-to-PED-connector electrical and mechanical connection when the case sections including the accessory are mated together.
